Police in the Eastern Region have moved in to calm tensions in Somanya following chieftaincy clashes there.
The clashes erupted during the launch of the Kloyosikplemi festival.
At least five soldiers and ten civilians were arrested in separate incidents at Ogome and Somanya but Regional police operations commander, DSP Otumi Kartey told Joy News correspondent, Kofi Siaw security has been beefed up to avert any further clashes.
“Already one faction has launched the festival and we are told the Queen mother wants to launch. The intelligence gathered was that the other faction was preparing to attack.
“We are on the ground,” to provide security he added.
Kofi Siaw reported the Yilo Krobo and Somanya area have been a harbinger of violence over chieftaincy crisis.
According to him, the area has known no peace following the death of the acting president of the traditional council Nene Tumo Odokor I.
An infuriated spokesperson for one of the factions King George is blaming the recent violence on the MCE accusing him of supporting the other faction.
