Ashaiman police say it has stepped up security at Adjei Kojo and adjoining communities in Tema following the killing of a girl in the area over the weekend.
This comes after residents expressed fear for their lives when 10-year-old Nyamyo was found lying in a pool of her own blood.
According to the mother of the deceased, Salomey Terkpertey, she was with her daughter at the shop where she sells food prior to the incident.
She said when she returned home around 10:30 pm, her daughter’s lifeless body was in a pool of blood in their room.
Speaking to JoyNews' Esi Thompson, residents said the scream of Nyamyo’s mother took them by surprise bringing them out their rooms.
One resident said that they want the police to speed up with investigation adding that they do not want the case to be left hanging.
Ashiaman divisional Crime officer, Supt. Tony Adepa, who have been giving details of the case, told JoyNews that they are yet to make an arrest since the incident occurred on Sunday.
“On inspection, it was detected that a sharp object was used to inflict deep cut in her throat and her intestines were found protruding suggesting that she was also stabbed.”
He added that a knife was found drowned in blood next to the body “suggesting that it might have been used to commit the crime.”
Supt Adepa said that there is enough patrol team currently in the area to pick up any suspicious activity.
“For fear, they shouldn’t be afraid at all, because the police are poised to safeguard their security,” he said.
