AC Milan’s Ghanaian midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng will be part of Fifa’s new anti-racism taskforce which meets for the first time next week.Established by football’s governing body, the taskforce will help combat racism and discrimination.Former BBC journalist and lawyer Osasu Obayiuwana of Nigeria has been named as part of the committee to clamp down on the shameful menace.Outgoing Football Association chairman David Bernstein and his compatriot Howard Webb who is a referee will also be members of the new group.The taskforce will meet for the first time on 6 May and present its initial findings at Fifa’s annual congress on 30-31 May.In March, Fifa announced the formation of the group as part of a drive to demonstrate it is taking discrimination in the game seriously.It was announced then that Jeffrey Webb, the president of Concacaf, the confederation for North and Central America along with the Caribbean, was to be chairman of the taskforce.Bernstein, who will step down as FA chairman in July, will be joined by Theo Van Seggelen, the head of FIFPro, the global players’ union and Jozy Altidore, the United States national player currently playing for AZ Alkmaar who was racially abused during a game against Den Bosch.Italian journalist and head of the International Sports Press Association Gianni Merlo, chairman of Fifa’s disciplinary committee Marcel Mathier and former chairman of Fifa’s ethics committee Claudio Sulser are also involved.Football journalist and lawyer Osasu Obayiuwana, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and head of European anti-racism body Fare, Piara Powar, complete the taskforce.
