The Chief Executive Officer of Aspire Business Network, Kwame Antwi-Frempong, has urged African workers to protect their jobs since unemployment is extremely high on the continent.
In an article, Mr. Antwi-Frempong who is based in Michigan, USA, said it is very important for those who do not have jobs to also protect their image so as to better their odds of finding one.
“Protecting your personal brand is crucial for maintaining a positive professional image and ensuring better outcomes in your career.
He listed five ways to safeguard and enhance one’s personal brand.
- Monitor your online presence: Regularly search your name across search engines and social media platforms to assess what information or posts are associated with you. Actively manage your online profiles and privacy settings to ensure that the content aligns with your personal brand and professional goals.
- Build a strong online presence: Establishing a professional online presence can help shape your personal brand. Create and regularly update a LinkedIn profile, engage in industry-related conversations on social media, and consider starting a personal website or blog to showcase your expertise.
- Be mindful of your social media activity: Exercise caution when posting on social media platforms, as even personal accounts can influence how others perceive you professionally. Be mindful of the content you share, avoid controversial or offensive statements, and think twice before posting or commenting.
- Maintain consistency across platforms: Ensure that your personal brand is consistent across different online platforms. This includes using the same profile photo, maintaining a professional tone, and sharing content that aligns with your values, expertise, and professional goals.
- Cultivate and nurture professional relationships: Network within your industry and build strong connections with peers, mentors, and professionals who can vouch for your personal brand. Actively contribute to professional communities, attend industry events, and seek opportunities to collaborate with others who share similar interests and values.
He concluded by urging all and sundry to remember to protect their personal brand since it is an ongoing process.
“By being proactive and consistently maintaining a positive online presence, you can enhance your professional outcomes”, he added.
