The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has dismissed as false and baseless circulating media reports alleging that staff at the Energy Commission of Ghana are demanding the termination of the appointment of the acting Executive Secretary, Ing. Mrs Eunice Biritwum. The union described the claims as a misrepresentation that does not reflect the views or sentiments of the Commission’s workforce.

In a memorandum issued on 4 February 2026, Hubert Nsoh Zan, Divisional Chairman of the PSWU (Energy Commission Division), said the Commission’s work environment remains calm, professional and productive, despite the reports that have appeared on platforms including Pan African TV and The Herald Ghana.

“Contrary to the reports of agitation and calls for her removal, the work environment at the Energy Commission remains calm, professional, and productive. There are currently no internal protests, industrial actions, or disturbances occurring within any of our offices,” the statement said.

Union rejects misrepresentation

The union expressed regret that external actors or anonymous sources would use the purported voice of “the staff” to pursue an unknown agenda, emphasising that the PSWU is the only authorised body to speak for the workforce on employment-related issues.

“We find it deeply regrettable that external actors or anonymous sources would seek to use the name of ‘the staff’ to pursue an agenda that is entirely unknown to us. The Divisional (PSWU) leadership remains the only authorised body to communicate the grievances of the workforce, and we have issued no such statement,” the memo added.

Focus on the mandate and institutional stability

The PSWU said that staff remain focused on fulfilling the Energy Commission’s mandate of regulating and managing Ghana’s energy resources, and urged the media and the public to disregard the sensationalised reports, which it suggested were designed to create unnecessary tension.

“We urge the public and the media to disregard these sensationalised reports, which appear designed to create unnecessary tension where none exists,” the statement said.

The union also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its members and the stability of the Commission, and advised media outlets to verify information with authorised PSWU leadership before publishing claims that could affect the reputation of the staff.

“We advise all media outlets to verify information with the authorised Divisional (PSWU) leadership before publishing claims that involve the collective reputation of our staff,” the memo concluded.
