The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is yet to reach a firm conclusion on tariff adjustment for power despite pressure from power producers to do so.
Proposals for tariff increases have been as high as 200 percent as the country relies more on thermal power.
PURC’s Public Affairs Director, Nana Yaa Jantuah says although the Commission has not decided on when to announce the new tariff or how much Ghanaians would be paying for power, she is hopeful consumers understand the exigencies of the times.
“If we are going to get adequate power through the grid, I think that Ghanaians would be prepared to pay,” he said.
She was speaking to Joy News’ Elton John Brobby on the sidelines of a ceremony to welcome the Karpower barge.
The 250MW Karpower is expected to provide uninterrupted power at the lowest cost to Ghana as works begin to connect it to the national grid.
The powership which docked at Tema Harbour over the weekend is one of the many projects aimed at solving the three-year power crisis.
Another power plant, Volta River Authority’s 225 megawatts AMERI generator will soon be connected to the national grid.
