South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has sued the Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Development Authority, contesting the extension of his contract after retirement.
Mr Dafeamekpor argues that the CEO has exceeded the maximum five-year engagement period allowed by the Constitution, as granted by President Akufo-Addo.
He contends that Ernest Yao Owusu is not eligible for the alleged one-year extension of his contract beyond retirement, spanning from December 18, 2023, to December 17, 2024.
Among other requests, the MP seeks an order to annul the one-year extension of the post-retirement contract.
"A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of Article 199(4) of the 1992 Constitution as Amended by the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Act, 1996, a public servant may only be engaged for a limited period of not more than two years at a time but not exceeding five years in all on the condition that the exigencies of the service so require."
