The Chairman of the Bechem Local Council of Churches in the Ahafo Region, Rev Frimpong Boadu has underscored the need for President Akufo-Addo to maintain a majority of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as he makes fresh appointments.
According to him, most of the MMDCEs have performed creditably well, hence the need for the President to give them an additional 4-year mandate to enable the continuation of the developments that are being accelerated.
“Continuation should be a major factor informing appointment of government officials especially MMDCE’s, therefore I ask of President Akkufo Addo to be cautious with his appointments,” Rev. Boadu further argued.
Rev. Boadu who made the suggestion in interaction with JoyNews at Bechem, encouraged the President to be firm and bold to retire those MMDCEs that have accumulated bad records, making the government unpopular in the eyes of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He noted that the national development agenda is perfectly progressing, adding “the free Senior High School programme is greatly bridging the existing education gap between the rich and the poor and I think the MMDCEs have been part of this progress.
Therefore, I do not see the wisdom in replacing them, especially the most daring, hardworking and loyal ones”.
Rev. Boadu further advised parents to complement government efforts at ensuring that children can access quality education by providing their children with the basic educational needs to sustain their interest in school.
He also called on the government to prioritise Vocational and Technical Education (TVET) and make it attractive.
Rev Boadu noted that because TVET education is unattractive many parents have discouraged their children to pursue technical education which holds the key to the nation’s industrialization agenda.
