The Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has outlined his commitment to tackling unemployment in the region as a key part of his agenda if approved for the position.
Speaking during his vetting in Parliament on Monday, January 27, Dr Amoakohene highlighted the region’s unemployment rate of 16.0%, which is higher than the national average of 14.7%.
He described this as a pressing issue and pledged to work closely with various sectors to create decent job opportunities, particularly for the youth in the region.
“The Ashanti Region, known for its agriculture, trade, and business, has significant potential for growth. If given the nod, I will focus on addressing the infrastructural gaps, especially in trade and market expansion, to boost economic activity,” he stated.
Dr Amoakohene also emphasised the importance of making agriculture a more attractive and lucrative sector. He promised to support local businesses and ensure that investments in infrastructure would create a conducive environment for trade and employment.
His strategy, he explained, involves collaboration with key stakeholders to reduce the unemployment rate and promote sustainable development in the Ashanti Region.
"We must create opportunities that not only employ our youth but also transform the Ashanti region," he concluded.
