The running mate of NDC flagbearer, John Mahama has charged Ghanaians to go all out and register in the ongoing new voters’ register compilation.
Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang said the right to vote is salient and every Ghanaian must guard same jealously.
All electorates, she said must “reject the attempts by some to disenfranchise [others].”
“We are all Ghanaians and we love this country deeply and we make contributions to the running of our country,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said during her outdooring as the running mate of Mr Mahama.
“Do not let anyone make you feel otherwise,” she told the NDC members at University of Professional Studies in Accra.
Intimidation of voters
The NDC has consistently accused the government of intimidating voters in opposition strongholds following the commencement of the voters’ registration exercise.
A press conference held last month in Ketu South, in the Volta Region -- the NDC’s biggest stronghold -- cited the deployment of military personnel to the area as an intimidation tactic.
NPP MP for Adansi Asokwa K.T. Hammond corroborated the NDC’s fears when he said the deployment is to ensure Togolese do not register in the exercise, a claim the NDC has described as tribal bigotry.
However, the government insisted the deployment was to protect the borders of Ghana which are closed as part of Covid-19 restrictions.
