The Minister for Oti Region, Nana Kwasi Owusu Yeboah has embarked on a three-day familiarisation tour of some parts of the region.

The tour, which started on Monday saw the minister and his team visit the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe traditional areas.

These four traditional areas are currently awaiting the creation of an administrative district and a political constituency.

Assembly members elected in the December district level elections in these areas have since not been sworn in.

The visit by the Minister was to inform and assure the chiefs and people of these areas of government’s commitment to constitute the areas into an administrative district and the Electoral Commission’s creation of an electoral constituency.

The chiefs and people are yet to constitute a Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) to decide on pertinent issues such as the location of the district capital, the area to produce the District Chief Executive, Parliamentary candidates among others.

Response from the Chiefs and people

The four traditional areas are characterised by underdevelopment in the areas of roads, educational infrastructure, police posts among others.

Request for good roads was a major concern for the chiefs who spoke for the various traditional areas.

Chief of Likpe Bala, Nana Bulley Osai VII speaking on behalf of the paramount chief for the area, described their road network as “foot paths” and asked for urgent action to be taken on the roads so the people can enjoy their rights.

He added that the area has largely contributed to the national purse through cocoa and coffee production.

Meanwhile the deplorable road network in the area got the minister’s convoy grounded for some time when the vehicle on which he was travelling burst a tyre in the middle of the journey to Likpe traditional area.
