As Ghana’s December elections approach, anxiety and uncertainty are growing among constituents in Dome.
JoyNews' Sweety Aborchie visited Dome Market, bustling with activity, to interview locals from various walks of life about their thoughts on the country’s current state and their concerns ahead of the polls.
Frank, a shop owner at Dome Market, shared his perspective, stating that many customers have been complaining about the rising prices of goods.
He explained, "Due to the persistent increase in prices, many customers express frustration before deciding to purchase from me."
He added that this is the most common complaint he hears from his customers.
Frank also lamented the poor road network leading to the market, noting that this is another frequent grievance from the community.
Raphael, a meat shop attendant, remarked, "A year ago, around this time, the market was crowded, and I might not have had the time to speak to you. But now, because of inflation, few people are coming to the market, which has slowed productivity." He added, "The economy is tough."
Despite these challenges, Raphael stated, "No matter how difficult things get, the people of Dome will always vote for the NPP. We are leaving everything in God's hands."
He emphasised the importance of peaceful voting, urging, "We need to vote in peace, and our leaders should not incite violence. Let us go to the polls and return in peace." He concluded, "Ghana is for us."
Frank, on the other hand, reiterated the need for peace during the election: "We should vote peacefully, exercise our franchise calmly, and make sure everything is done in a peaceful manner."
