Hi-Life great, Rex Omar has finally received the Best Photography award he won at the 2009 edition of the 4Syte Music Video Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The award was handed over to him at the formal launch of the 2011 edition of the 4Syte Music Video Awards at a star-studded event at the African Regent Hotel poolside Saturday night.
The delay in presenting Rex Omar the award was as a result of his decision to abstain from the music industry – a decision that lasted a decade and ended early this year.
A source close to the organisers explained to Myjoyonline.com that, “he was out of the system and he didn’t want to have anything to do with music. That was for ten years and this is the tenth year and he won the award in 2009 so we couldn’t present the award to him then.”
When the source was quizzed how come Rex Omar made it to the 2009 edition of the awards considering the fact that he, Rex Omar, had not released any (commercial) material for the past ten years, the source said, “the 2009 edition [which was the first edition of the awards] of the awards made some allowance for yester year’s videos,” adding that made Rex Omar’s video eligible.
Saturday’s official launch of this year’s awards witnessed exciting performances from R2Bees, who did not only decide to buy all the kebab on sale at the venue, but also dished out their smash hit Ageeii. Other performers include Kelvin Beats and R&M winners of the maiden Vodafone Icons reality show.
Songstress Efya, Zigi, Richie, Edem (Ayigbe Edem), VIP, D-Black, Okyeame Kwame and 4X4 were among artistes who attended the launch which was used to officially announce the awards and unveil the nominees for this year’s awards.
