The Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street has refurbished the maternity block of the Police Hospital in Accra.
The project involved the change of sinks and broken louvre blades in the maternity block, as well as the repainting of the building housing the ward, among other minor works.
Speaking at the commissioning of the block, the District Governor (DG) of the Rotary Club, Dr Sam Worentutu, said the need to improve maternal and child healthcare delivery in the country spurred the Club to renovate the block.
He observed that childbirth, which is a gift from God and a crucial moment in the lives of women, requires a conducive environment.
According to him, a good healthcare facility attracts users not only to the competence and professionalism of caregivers, but its infrastructure and equipment that help in ensuring satisfactory service delivery.
“I implore management to take good care of the facilities to ensure its sustenance. I call on all well-meaning individuals and organisations to get on board and extend similar gestures to those in need across the country,” he pleaded.
Dr Worentutu also urged the health professionals to treat patients with the needed care and compassion to enhance quality healthcare delivery, adding that they must strive to work diligently in the line of their duties to dispel perceptions about ill treatments meted out to expectant mothers.
The matron of the ward, Superintendent of Police, Mary Akweley Akoto, on behalf of the Hospital commended the Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street for the gesture.
She assured the Club of a proper maintenance of the facility to help attract more of such kind gestures from the Club and other organisations.
