Leading National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Sam Pee Yalley is threatening to file a lawsuit against the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu, for failing to fully execute her duties as a Member of Parliament.
Mr. Pee Yalley said Ursula’s decision not to participate in government business on the floor of Parliament is not serving his interests as a resident of the constituency she represents.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its MPs not to participate in any activity directly relating to the Office of President John Mahama, whose election certain party leaders are challenging at the Supreme Court.
On Monday, Mr. Pee Yalley told Kojo Asare Baffour Acheampong, host of Adom TV’s Badwam programme, that Ms. Owusu should have considered the interests of her constituents, whether NDC, NPP or floating voters, before agreeing to the join her NPP colleagues in selectively boycotting Parliamentary proceedings.
He added that the constitution clearly specifies how concerns such as the NPP’s can be addressed but the party has deliberately ignored these provisions.
He said he would file the suit to compel his MP to explain to the court why she has failed to perform her duties as a Member of Parliament representing the interests of the people who voted her into that office.
Mr. Pee Yalley also called on Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Ghartey to step down since he, like Ursula, is “short changing Ghanaians.”
