Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Apaak has called for a temporary closure of Parliament with immediate effect.
His submission comes on the back of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s revelation on Wednesday, that some legislators and staff had tested positive for Covid-19.
He had earlier warned to, as part of measure to ensure adherence to health protocols, publish names of MPs who still attend proceedings in the House despite their positive status.
However, the Builsa South MP had a different view of a more radical approach towards the matter.
On Thursday night he posted on Twitter; “15 MPs and 56 staff of parl have tested positive for COVID Best option, shut down parl.
“We don’t know the IDs of those positive, who still attended parl. Shut down parl,” he stressed.

Best option, shut down parl. We don't know the IDs of those positive, who still attended parl. Shut down parl, all MPs and staff, self isolate. Get us tested after 14 days, then we resume if negative.
The Speaker had also warned that the members who are yet to submit to the test must do so immediately.
“Some members of Parliament who have in fact tested positive to the Covid are still coming to the Chamber. Mr Speaker wishes me to inform you that if those members do not withdraw and isolate, he will be forced to publish the names of members who have tested positive in order to warn the rest of us."
Dr Apaak is, therefore, recommending that “all MPs and staff, self isolate.”
He also called for urgent testing of all legislators and staff of the House.
“Get us tested after 14 days, then we resume if negative,” the Builsa South MP advised.
It may be recalled that Members of Parliament, Staff and Parliamentary Correspondents of all Media Houses in the country were instructed to undergo testing on Tuesday, January 25 by the 7th Speaker, Prof Mike Ocquaye.
Meanwhile, the House is yet to announce all who successful passed the test.
