Global technology powerhouse, Siemens, has renovated the Prestoncrest house, an all-girls home, at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Gomoa Fete, Central Region, in fulfilment of a pledge made earlier this year when a combined team from Siemens Ghana and South Africa, visited the orphanage.

The Siemens team pledged to refurbish Prestoncrest house, one of seven residences at the orphanage and home to 32 girls between the ages of five to 16 years, after making a donation of clothing and food items to the Orphanage in February, 2018.

The renovation project included plumbing works, electrical wiring and fittings, carpentry as well as painting of the entire Prestoncrest House building and other ancillary works.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Edmund Acheampong, Country Manager for Siemens Ghana, stated that the project is in line with the company’s quest to contribute positively to the communities in which it operates and that they ultimately benefit both socially and economically.

He stated that beyond the commitment to impact Ghana’s economy positively, specifically in the area of power, infrastructure, education and health, Siemens Ghana was also committed to providing humanitarian support to individuals from challenging social backgrounds and also supporting institutions that lack essential tools and resources needed for learning and skills training.

This gesture, Mr. Acheampong believes, is an investment, not only for the Village of Hope children but an investment in the future of Ghana. He told the Village of Hope family that “Siemens is in Ghana for Ghana and is watering the seeds for tomorrow’s future by contributing to the wellbeing of the children who will steer Ghana’s development”.

Speaking to the children at the orphanage, he said “Siemens believes that when we invest in you, we invest in the future; the future leaders and engineers who will continue in the innovative technology of Siemens”, adding “You are the future of Ghana so believe it”.

Mr. Acheampong commended management and parents of the village of Hope Orphanage for the good work and sacrifices made to raise the children to have a “sense of family and a sense of belonging”.

He also urged management and children of the orphanage to manage the renovated facility with care and develop a good maintenance culture to motivate Siemens and other stakeholders to continue to support activities of the orphanage. 

Mr. Kwaku Sarkodie, Managing Director in charge of Child Care division at the Village of Hope stated how grateful the orphanage was to Siemens Ghana for recognizing a need to reinstate the Prestoncrest House which was in a deplorable condition.

“Siemens has taken a huge cost off management of Village of Hope orphanage. The children in the renovated homes are now much more comfortable”, Mr. Sarkodie said, adding that this is the first time the house has been renovated after 11 years.
