South Africa sweeps 7 awards at 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards

The 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards came off Thursday at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa as winners of the 14 categories were announced. Sadly Ghanaian contenders who had five nominations in this year’s awards left the show with nothing. Dancehall artiste, Samini was nominated in the Most Gifted Ragga Dancehall Video category with his Sweet Mistake video. The other four nominees were Jon Germain in the Most Gifted RNB with In My Head, D-Black & Kwaku-T in the Most Gifted Hip Hop Video with Breathe, Becca ft Samini for Fire (Remix) and J-Town for his Guns & Roses all in the Most Gifted West Video. Nigerian artistes, P-Square, D’Banj, Naeto C and 2Face were some of the big winners of the night bringing to the fore questions of whether the awards were fair or Ghana is just not doing enough when it comes to music making and its marketing. South Africa was the biggest winner on the night bagging seven of the 14 awards at stake. Below is a detailed list of winners at the awards: Most Gifted Video of the Year - Party 101 by Teargas (South Africa) Most Gifted Female - If You Want Me by Mo’Cheddah (Nigeria) - Juju by Black Coffee (South Africa) Most Gifted Newcomer - Calling by L-Tid (South Africa) Most Gifted Duo - E No Easy by P-Square (Nigeria) Most Gifted Afro Pop - Fall In Love by D’Banj (Nigeria) Most Gifted Hip Hop Video - Ako Mi Ti Poju by Naeto C (Nigeria) Most Gifted Ragga Dancehall Video - Champion (Remix) by General Pype (Nigeria) Most Gifted Dance Video - Fairytale by Liquideep (South Africa) Most Gifted Kwaito Video - Umlilo by Big Nuz (South Africa) Most Gifted R&B – Addicted by Urban Reign (South Africa) Most Gifted Southern Video - Sekele by South African Pro (South Africa) Most Gifted West Video – Implications by 2Face (Nigeria) Most Gifted East Video - Everybody Dance by Obita (Uganda) Somalian-born global music star, K’Naan was on the night given a Special Recognition award.
