Six persons accused of assisting one Eric Kojo Duah to murder two policemen in Budumburam in the Central Region have been freed by a district court.
The court freed the six suspects after State Prosecutors dropped the charges against them.
ASP Sylvester Asare on Thursday informed the court that recent developments about the murder case have left the state with no choice than to amend the charge sheet.
The court, therefore, obliged and discharged the six, JoyNews correspondent, Joseph Ackah-Blay, reported.
The suspects, Isaac Amissah, Ibrahim Zakaria, Isaac Mensa, Oblitey Commey, Victor Yire and Fatawu Ahmed, were arrested after Eric Duah allegedly shot and killed the officers – Mohammed Awal and Michael Dzamesi – when they accosted them for refusing to heed to a signal to stop.
The deceased policemen were personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) detachment at Kasoa, and their deaths sparked public outrage.
Meanwhile, the new charge sheet filed in court slaps Eric Kojo Duah and others identified as Theophilus, Mike Anim and Kay ( who state Prosecutors say are at large) with murder and conspiracy to commit crime namely murder of the two policemen.
Prosecutors say these were the co-occupants in the vehicle that the key suspect used to commit the crime before it was abandoned.
The case has been adjourned to October 9.
