Ex Black Stars captain and Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah continued with his Peace Tour, ahead of the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, with a call on the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Rev Emmanuel Asante.
Appiah, would lead a World XI side against Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Ghana Black Stars on June 8 and 11, 2016 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium respectively, as the former Juventus talisman aims at using football to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
Appiah, informed the Council that, he was ready to serve the nation and will do everything possible to ensure peace and unity in the country.
“There is always tension in the country anytime we draw closer to elections and this led me into discussions with event power-house Primeval Media, to organise a football match to preach peace and unity.
“If there should be electoral violence in Ghana, we would have no where to run to and so we must preserve the peace and unity in the country and I believe football is the best means to promote peace and unity in the country.
“It is a worthy exercise and you must be encouraged.
“If a son of the land is promoting a worthy course, it is right to support him and so the Council would throw its weight behind you.
“The NPC would offer infinite support to the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, in accordance with the Council’s aims and objectives.” He stated.
Rev. Asante commended Vodafone Ghana and other sponsors for supporting such a worthy cause Appiah.
