An opinion leader in the Akan Constituency of the Volta Region, Nana Tweneboa Kankam has appealed to politicians from the area and the various political parties to cease from giving alcoholic beverages to the youth, when organizing rallies and other public events.
Nana Tweneboa Kankam who is the founder of Bom Dwene, a pressure group in the area, noted that a number of political violence that broke out in the constituency and other parts of the country, could be traced to drinking.
He rather calls for education among the youth who constitute a chunk of the support base for the political parties. Speaking in an interview with Asempa News Nana Kankam said the volatile nature of the Akan constituency calls for collaboration among the people, to enable them harness both human and natural resources to help in developing the area.
He explains that the Akan constituency is built up around people from diverse ethnic background, a situation which makes alienation to a particular political grouping dangerous to the marginalized ethnic groups.
He said for the first time in their history, violence broke out in the area and other parts of the country during the voters’ registration exercise, a condition he perceives as a warning signal for bad days ahead for the nation.
