The Chief Executive Officer of the Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK, Eric Nii Tetteh, popularly known as Alordia, has confirmed that he paid Shatta Wale £80,000 as performance fee for this year’s award ceremony.
He made this confirmation while speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter (X) Spaces show dubbed ‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’ on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
Asked if Shatta Wale named the correct amount of money he paid to him, Alordia answered in the affirmative.
“He mentioned it. Yes, he mentioned it,” he said.
The amount raised a lot of hackles as some doubted the organisers could afford it. This comes after Shatta Wale, while celebrating his win at the event, made an announcement of how much he was paid.
Alordia on the show indicated that apart from Taabea, his scheme had a lot of sponsors that made it easier for them to afford a fee as high as £80,000 for their artistes.
“I have been in this game for two decades. Do you think if I was not making gains I would still do that job? Do you know how many times I come to Ghana in a year? Does he pay my ticket for me?” he asked while reacting to claims by Peace FM presenter Kwasi Aboagye that the organisers could not afford £80,000 as performance fee to Shatta Wale.
“Look at the number of sponsors I have. And look at the venue. You saw how the venue was packed? I got about 6 solid sponsors and I had a sponsor for every category because of what we are doing for the past 6 years. People living in the UK know what I have done for the industry and they know what I am still doing,” Alordia further noted.
The 2023 Taabea Ghana Music Awards was held at the Royal Regency in London on October 7, 2023.
Shatta Wale emerged winner of the overall Artiste of the Year category.
The Ghana Music Awards UK, founded 6 years ago is a platform for Ghanaians in the United Kingdom to celebrate Ghanaian musicians both in Ghanaian and in the UK.
