Reigning WBA International/WBO Africa Super Feather Weight Champion Emmanuel ‘the game boy’ Tagoe is scheduled to travel to the United States in the coming days to take on American Gerardo Robles in an International Super Featherweight contest. The bout is scheduled to take place on the 22nd of June at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City and would be promoted by Oscar De la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions together with its partners Nelson Promotions.Tagoe, who recently defeated Filipino Ronald Pontillas over 12 grueling rounds, is excited about the prospects of showing his worth to the big boxing community in the States and the globe at large. He is set to begin preparations for this upcoming bout by next week. The icing on the cake for the Ghanaian boxing prodigy is his promotional outfit’s decision to secure the services of the highly regarded Floyd Mayweather Senior for his training camp. Tagoe has been criticized for a lack of punching power and his inability to effectively deal with his opponents and that has necessitated the new addition to his corner.CEO of Baby Jet Promotions, Samuel Anim Addo believes hiring no mean a person than Mayweather Snr would boost the confidence of Tagoe.“Emmanuel may have defeated Pontillas over the weekend but he himself will be the first to admit that his performance was a bit below par. We know he has the potential and we believe he can fulfill that potential if he gets the support of someone like Mayweather Snr.We want to work on his punching power, his ring generalship and his ability to finish off opponents inside the distance. That is the only way he can become a World Class fighter.”The jury is out on Tagoe to stake a claim for a world title by fighting the very best in the division and that begins against Robles on the 22nd of June.
