The Northern Regional Police command has deployed officers to the family house of the late former Vice president Alhaji Aliu Mahama following a fight that broke out over inheritance of property.
The children of the late former Vice President are said to have been in a fight last night after disagreement over who has the right to inherit houses and other valuable properties of their late father.
Northern regional correspondent Hashmin Mohammed who has been monitoring the story said the confrontation was triggered when the first son of the late vice president, Mahama Mahama returned from Europe to occupy one of the residences of the late vice president in Tamale, where their father was buried.
He was said to have performed some grand recitation to the soul of his late father. The mother of Mahama Mahama was said to have been divorced by the late Aliu Mahama.
Hashmin said Farouk Mahama, the second son then moved from his Accra residence together with his mother to demand that his senior brother should leave the house.
That led to serious exchanges with the factions mobilising other members of the family to join the fracas.
Tamale Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Hasmin Mohammed that the police quickly had to intervene to restore law and order.
"Ours is to ensure that life and property are safeguarded. We had an information that there was small problem here so we detailed some men to come and when they came we assessed the situation and we saw there was the need to bring additional men.
"They were here with the military yesterday and they are still around to try and ensure there will not be further problems here," ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed to Joy News.
He said none of the family members have since lodged any formal complaint to the police.
