Police have placed the taxi driver who brutally murdered his 20-year-old lover under close watch after he attempted to take his own life.
Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Police Command, ASP Efia Tenge, told Joy News the suspect would be made to face the law after his recovery.
“Murder is one of the serious offences in our statutes. When he is even receiving medical treatment or attention he is under strong security because somebody who has attempted committing suicide by stabbing himself indicates that if he gets the opportunity he will do something worse to himself,” said ASP Tenge.
The suspect stabbed Jennifer Attieku, a Level 300 Banking and Finance student at the University of Professional Studies, multiple times and slit her throat for jilting him.
He then stabbed himself after committing the act but was rushed to the hospital where he gained consciousness.
The suspect had been bailed earlier this week from police custody after a report was made by the victim.
The suspect was arrested but released shortly.
ASP Efia Tenge told Joy News the suspect was released from police custody because police needed to conduct further investigations before charging him.
She said the murdered student was also reluctant to give police a formal complaint statement although she had reported death threats by her boyfriend to them.
