The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, Irene Naa Torshie Addo is convinced some members of a Parliamentary committee set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Adjei Kojo demolition exercise have been compromised.
She is therefore asking the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho to reconstitute the membership of the committee.
The committee held series of meetings with members of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to ascertain the reasons for which they flattened some hundreds of houses sited on a disputed piece of land in Adjei Kojo, a suburb of Tema.
Joy News captured part of the meeting in which some members of the committee, or people affiliated to the committee vehemently supporting the action by the TDC but criticizing the victims of the demolition exercise.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East, Titus Glover was heard describing the demolished area as a den for robbers.
He also accused the media of unjustifiably tarnishing the reputation of the boss of the TDC and commended the TDC for embarking on the demolition exercise.
Glover said the victims were wrong in putting up structures on the disputed land, insisting, "somebody should be bold enough to say what is wrong is wrong."
The comments by Mr. Glover and others on the committee sent the MP for Tema West fuming.
Irene Naa Torshie Addo told Joy News' Elton John Brobbey some members of the committee, who are part of the Works and Housing committee of Parliament already have working relationship with the TDC and have therefore been compromised.
She did not understand why members of the committee will take sides in a matter they are investigating, especially when they have not spoken to the victims.
She said the committee members have spoken to the TDC and taken documents from them but have never considered speaking to the victims, let alone, take documents from them.
She was even more incensed with the comments by members of the committee against the victims.
"The moment you are a member of a committee, you become a judge and you don't take sides," she stated.
Having been accused of being too emotional in addressing the issue, Irene Naa Torshie Addo said her emotions may have been triggered by the ghastly sight of new babies and pregnant women lying in the open.
Her comments have also angered the Chairman of the Committee, David Tetteh Assumeng.
Mr. Assumeng told Joy News the comments by the MP for Tema West were uncalled for.
According to him, Titus Glover was not a member of the committee but was only invited to sit in the meeting because he is an MP in Tema.
Additionally, the Chairman of the committee noted that the opinions of the members of the committee remains their individual opinions and do not affect the work of the committee.
David Tetteh Asssumeng later accused the Tema West MP of failing to cooperate with the committee, indicating that several attempts by the committee to get Irene Naa Torshie Addo to attend the committee sittings and assist with the investigations, have proved futile.
"Instead of her cooperating, she is going round radio stations insulting me and members of the committee,", Assumeng alleged.
He said the members of the Committee will move to Adjei Kojo to continue with the investigation if they get the clearance from the leadership of the house.
