Scores of graduate teachers who trooped to the banks, hoping to cash their two years salary arrears were disappointed. This is because amounts covering only one month had been credited to their accounts. According to Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey, the teachers said their colleagues are afraid to come together to fight for their right for fear of victimization. “I was expecting 17 months salary, but when I got there it was only one month salary, which is about GH¢64, meanwhile I was expecting over GH¢6,000 because I have worked for over 17 good months,” a disgruntled teacher, who wants to remain anonymous, told Luv News. He also accused the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) of showing no concern about their plight. “You don’t see them fighting for anything for us…for 17 months that we haven’t been paid and GNAT hasn’t told us anything, you don’t see them.” Meanwhile, a circular from Controller and Accountant General’s office signed by Ralf Akwasi Tuffuor said payment of salary arrears for 2009 to 2010 would be paid only upon approval by the minister of finance.
