The Techiman Municipal Assembly and traditional leaders in the Bono East Region have recognised the exploits of one of their own, Ellen White Opoku.
Ellen was one of the awardees of the just-ended JoyNews Impact Awards held on June 23, 2023.

She was among the 10 shortlisted individuals from 500 nominees across the nation who made the cut.

Miss Opoku, who is the Girls Education Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), was recognized for her promotion of Girl Child Education in the municipality.

On July 12, 2023, at Nana Hansuahene’s Palace, the Techiman Tradition Council, the GES, opinion leaders from across the region, including top security officials, gathered to celebrate the woman’s exploits at a durbar.

Dignitaries present included the Municipal Chief Executive of Techiman Municipal Assembly, the representative of the Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Council (who doubles as the chief of Hasua), the Techiman Municipal Director of Education, the Head of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, sub-chiefs, queen mothers, colleagues from the SISOs (Senior Inspectors of Schools), headteachers, teachers, staff from Bono East and Techiman Education Service, GNAT (Ghana National Association of Teachers), and other teacher union representatives, among many others.

There has been jubilation at the GES’ Bono East regional office of the education service since then.

Ellen was presented with citations from dignitaries, while other individuals expressed their testimony of how much her work has impacted the community.

Ellen has also committed to doing more to ensure the development of education in the region, especially for the girl child.

She has urged philanthropists to support vulnerable girls by donating to provide free sanitary pads.

The Director also expressed her appreciation to the MCE, the traditional council, the GES and all who contributed to celebrating the moment.

Asiden from Ellen, nine other selfless individuals who were adjudged to have made impactful differences towards the advancement of their communities were also honoured with awards at the grand reception held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
Each one of the awardees walked home with a cash prize, a plaque and citation.

They will also have their great stories featured on The Multimedia Group's platforms so public spirited individuals and businesses may follow their examples and also support them.
The Impact Makers Awards recognises and celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities, shines the light on their selfless devotion to humanity and to direct support for them to enable them expand their horizons.
Health enthusiast Jefferson Kwasi Agbotro; friend of lepers Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell; entrepreneur and social activist Richard Kwei Mensah Okoe; educationist Ellen White Opoku of Techiman; mental health fighter Eliasu Yussif Baba; and Yayra Portia Klu for volunteerism and education, were all honoured with awards.
The rest are Joy Okrah of AWO Fields; Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya from Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region; Rev. John Akaribo of Bolga; and entrepreneur Amadu Mohammed.
