One person has been reported shot in the Mpohor Wassa constituency after elections in the area ended on Sunday.
Three security officials are also said to have been abducted by an angry mob in the constituency.
An eyewitness, Christian Baidoo, told the media the violence in the constituency started when the two parties contesting the election accused each other of double voting.
Some of the persons who voted in the special voting exercise are said to have voted again in the general election.
The skirmish has sent some angry youth blocking the roads leading into the town.
Two military patrol teams are said to have been dispatched to the area to restore order.
Observers have attributed the heightening tension in the region to the close context in election results in the constituency between the two main political parties.
The ruling New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7 election led with 17,793 while Prof. Atta Mills of the National Democratic Congress trailed with 17,207, a gap of 586 of total valid votes cast.
