Vigorous campaigns have started in the Tain Constituency as the NPP and NDC jostle for votes to enable the ascend to the presidency.
Former president Jerry John Rawlings is already in the constituency campaigning to seal the deal for his party.
The NDC’s Prof. Mills obtained 4, 501, 466 representing 50.13, enough to win the race, but the Electoral Commission Chairman Dr Afari-Gyan, said the race was so close that the result of Tain could determine the eventual winner.
The election could not be held in the Tain Constituency because of late arrival of election materials.
The NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 4, 478, 411 or 49.87 per cent of total valid votes cast and hopes to garner enough votes to catapult him into the presidency.
Joy FM’s Kwame Osahene reports that campaign vans are crisscrossing the constituency while platforms are being mounted.
He said the people of Tain, who are predominantly farmers, have deserted their farms and are staying home to receive the avalanche of visitors expected in the area.
There is intense security presence in the constituency, and Osahene says anybody entering the constituency is thoroughly searched as part of the security measures.
Police Public Affairs Director, DSP Kwesi Ofori told Joy FM the police have multiplied the number of policemen in the area in order to create a congenial atmosphere for the political parties to conduct their campaigns.
He emphasised the presence of the police should not deter the people from coming out to vote on January 2.
Prof. Mills is on his way to the constituency while Nana Akufo-Addo is said to be preparing to leave Accra for Tain.
