The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed that thousands of people were recruited irregularly into public sector institutions.
In an interview on Joy FM's Newsnight on February 11, he described the process as a deliberate act of bad faith by the previous administration.
"The recruitment runs into the thousands, and you will recall that during our engagement in the transition, we noticed that there were agencies that, on their own, were recruiting hundreds of people through very irregular processes.
"So the numbers are quite huge. Thousands of persons have been recruited irregularly and through processes that would best be described as the exhibition of bad faith on the part of the previous government," he stated.
This Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has ordered all public sector heads to annul all appointments made after December 7, 2024, and submit a report on actions taken by February 17, 2025.
When asked whether the revoked positions would remain vacant or be filled through a new recruitment process, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said that all future hiring would follow due process.
"Ghanaians, who on the basis of specific qualifications and skill sets, may be periodically employed into the public sector. But being Ghanaian is not a sufficient reason to use irregular processes to get employment," he stated.
He further explained that those affected by the annulment will still have the opportunity to apply through the proper legal recruitment process.
He added that no Ghanaian will be excluded from participating on account of political affiliation.
"If you are Ghanaian and you do things contrary to the law, being Ghanaian will not absolve you of sanctions. At the appropriate time, if government determines that it is necessary to do better recruitment, it will be done, but due process will be used," he noted.
