Newly elected NPP Parliamentary candidate, Shiela Bartels-Sam has revealed that her move to go into politics shocked people including her father, Kwamena Bartels.
“Everybody knows that I am a corporate girl. I do campaigns vigorously every election even but nobody expected this from me. Especially going all the way to vying for a parliamentary seat,” she said on the Super Morning Show, Tuesday.
“So it was quite shocking even for my dad. He asked me whether I am sure that ‘do I really want to do this?’ And I said yes, I want to do it.”
She explained that she entered the political scene because she believes politics can bring about change for a community especially at the grassroots level.
“I think there are too many people who are not considering politics because of the noise and I was one of them. But you get to that point where you believe that if something must change, it must start with you and it must start in your backyard before it goes out there,” she stressed.
“That is when I got up and decided no, I must also make a change. I must also make an impact and that is actually what I set out to do.”
“So it's been a lot of experiences along the way. Some interesting things, some shocking, some fun, a lot of work, hard work but we thank God that we’ve come far,” she said.
Shiela Bartels Sam won the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat in the NPP Primaries held on Saturday June 20, 2020 removing Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie.
