Accra Hearts of Oak have been in the news in the last few days after suffering defeat against Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League meeting last weekend.
The Phobians are once again in the news today, but not for the defeat to the Porcupine Warriors. It's been 114 years since the establishment of the club.
Founded in 1911 in Accra by a group of young visionaries, the club has grown from a successful local team into one of the powerhouses in Africa’s club football history. Over the years, the club has produced unforgettable moments for its fans and made Ghana proud on the African stage.
As the club celebrates its milestone of 114 years of existence, here are their top 5 greatest achievement in the history of the club.
Winning 2000 CAF Champions League unbeaten
In 2000, Hearts achieved one of the most remarkable feats in African football history by winning the CAF Champions League without suffering any defeat. The Phobians displayed great dominance throughout the tournament, going through every stage without a single loss and defeating ES Tunis in the finals.
This feat established Hearts as one of the most feared and respected teams on the continent.
Record four consecutive league titles
Hearts remains the only club in Ghanaian football history to win four league titles in a row (1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-01). This remarkable run showcased the club’s dominance and consistency during that era. This run also displayed some of their most entertaining moments in their many years of existence.

Winning the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004
In 2004, Accra Hearts of Oak won the CAF Confederation Cup by defeating their fierce rivals Asante Kotoko. This victory made Hearts of Oak the first Ghanaian club to have won both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, and the first club to win the competition after its introduction by the Confederation of African Football.
Winning the continental treble in 2000
Accra Hearts of Oak remains the only club in West Africa to have achieved this by winning the CAF Champions League, Ghanaian FA Cup and Ghanaian Premier League all in the same year (2000).

Most domestic doubles in Ghana football history
Hearts of Oak is the only club in Ghana to win the Ghana Premier League and FA cup in the same year for a record 6 times, with their most recent double coming in 2021 when they won the league and beat Ashanti Gold on penalties to win the FA cup. The other years were in 1973, 1979, 1990, 1999, 2000 and 2001.
