Ms Niharika Handa, a prominent international business leader with interests spanning hospitality, telecommunications, and real estate, has filed a defamation suit in Ghana’s High Court.
The legal action targets online publishers accused of circulating false and damaging allegations about her and her son, Mr Punar Vasu Handa.
Filed through her legal representatives, Sory & Partners @ Law, the suit seeks GH₵5 million in damages, a mandatory retraction and public apology, and a perpetual injunction to prevent further publication of the alleged defamatory content.
Ms Handa has held leadership roles in the global hospitality sector, including serving as Managing Director of a top hospitality management company overseeing projects for leading international brands. She also sits on the board of an international resort company operating across 25 countries.
In a statement following the legal action, Ms Handa emphasised that the case is not only about safeguarding her personal reputation but also about protecting the integrity of journalism in Ghana.
“This action is not only about protecting my reputation, but also about upholding accountability in journalism. False publications harm not just individuals but also the confidence of international investors who view Ghana as a trusted destination for business,” she stated.
The defendants have been served and are required to respond within eight days. The case will be heard before the High Court of Justice in Accra.
Alongside the court filing, Ms Handa issued an official statement, describing the allegations as “completely untrue and intended only to damage our reputation.”
She reaffirmed her confidence in Ghana’s judicial system to uncover the truth.
She further urged the media and the public to act responsibly in their reporting and discussions.
“I respectfully urge the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims that only perpetuate harm. My family and I stand firm in truth and integrity,” she said.
