The General Manager of Tullow Oil Ghana Mr. Charles Darku has commended Right to Dream Academy (RtD) for the well-structured football module they are rolling out in the country.
Darku said the academy’s module of nurturing children and imbibing in them the virtues of excellence, integrity, hard work, discipline fits into Tullow’s own philosophy and values, hence the need to support their work.
He said his outfit share the same values as RtD, hence their three-year $750,000 sponsorship deal with the academy.
"Talents abound here. The academy’s module is the best way to go; as sponsors, we are proud of them because they believe in principles like integrity, diligence and others. That is what we believe in at Tullow,” he said in a post-memorial match at Akrade in the Eastern Region in honour of Frank Awuah, a staff of Tullow who passed on last year.
Chief Executive of RtD Tom Vernon expressed satisfaction in his investments saying, “I look back with great satisfaction having succeeded in inculcating a great sense of responsibility into the players. Modern football lacks character, most players don’t know how to leverage fame, but we have been able to achieve that.
“We are happy to be part of the development of Ghana soccer with this academy system,” he added.
Notable among players that has graduated from the academy are Black Stars duo of Abdul Majeed Warris, David Acam, midfielder Afriyie Acquah etc.
The Tullow Oil football side defeated RtD staff 4-2 in the Frank Awuah memorial Cup to lift the trophy.
