Only two years ago as everyone raved about Facebook, tweeting or micro-blogging looked like it was going nowhere. Today, number of tweets has hit the 50 million a day mark according to the latest info from the company. That’s an incredible 600 tweets per second. The full reach of these messages is much higher because every tweet is then delivered to multiple followers. It means Twitter has undergone exponential growth over the last three years – from 5,000 tweets a day in 2007 to 35 million by the close of 2009. An extra 15 million messages have come in the first six weeks of this year. No wonder Google, looking to get a slice of social media, were so keen to buy Twitter last year. Source: T3
