Two soldiers have been hospitalized at the Tamale Teaching Hospital following the explosion of gun powder they were carrying in their vehicles.
One other soldier has been discharged, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Region Police ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed to JOYNEWS Tuesday.
He further explained that gunshots were heard in Yendi last Saturday at a funeral. Military personnel were dispatched to the location where they seized at least 27 locally manufactured weapons, he told The Ghanaian Times Monday.
In view of a prevailing ban in the use of arms and ammunition, the soldiers also seized gun powder from a group of musketeers.
“Unfortunately on their way to their base, the gun powder exploded”, the PRO explained.
The Police are yet to establish the circumstances that led to the explosion. ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the musketeers would also be arrested.
