Two soldiers have been put before an Accra Circuit Court for robbing two Nigerians of their monies valued at GH¢3,300.Peter Omari Ansong and Alowor Yaw Mark have been charged with conspiracy to rob and robbery. They have pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri remanded them into prison custody to reappear on March 7, 2013.This was after the court had turned down a bail application put in by their lawyers. The facts as presented by Prosecuting Mrs. Elizabeth Sackeyfio, Senior State Attorney named the complainants as Peter Ebosel, a student and Freeman Ebosel a graphic designer.Mrs. Sackeyfio said the accused are soldiers but Ansong had been dismissed from the Ghana Armed Forces due to a similar offence he committed.Prosecution said the complainants alleged that they went to Spintex in Accra to withdraw money from a Western Union Money Transfer. On their way home, the accused persons trialed them and when they reached the Nungua barrier area, they (accused persons) intercepted their taxi and kidnapped them into a Toyota Corolla Saloon car with two other persons on board.According to Prosecution, the complainants indicated that the accused persons put handcuffs on them and said they were policemen and that they were taking them to the Criminal Investigations Department, headquarters in Accra to answer certain questions.Instead, the accused persons took the complainants to an isolated place near the CID headquarters and robbed them of their money totaling GH¢3,300 and collected Freeman’s cell phone amidst beatings.Prosecution said the accused persons were arrested in connection with a similar offence and the complainants identified them at an identification parade as they had used the same car in committing other robberies.Accused persons, however, have denied their involvement in the offence.
