The Presbyterian Church of Ghana says the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kwadwo Twum Boafo was never a member of the Church.
Public Relations Director of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Emmanuel Osei Akyeampong indicated that the church has no records showing Mr. Twum Boafo was a member of the church as he purports.
The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board in a statement issued Tuesday said he has renounced his membership in the church following what he claimed was the Church’s involvement in the controversy generated by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the creation of 45 new constituencies.
Twum Boafo who stated he was a member of the Christ Congregation in Akropong Akuapem in his statement said his decision stemmed from “a widely held perception among sections of the Ghanaian public that a section of the leadership of the Presbyterian Church is taking sides in our politics”.
But Public Affairs Director of the Church on Citi FM’s Eye witness news said checks at the Christ Congregation revealed that his [Twum Boafo] father, Mr. Twum Boafo Snr is rather a registered member of the church and not the NDC man.
According to him, Kojo Twum Boafo does not have a membership card but only attends the church as an occasional member.
The Presby Church PRO noted that for someone to be a qualified member of the Presbyterian Church, he or she must have a membership card and pay tithe regularly which he says Twum Boafo has not met the requirements.
“…For now the Presbyterian Church of Ghana wants the general public to know and be aware that Mr. Kwadwo Ansah Twum Boafo is not a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana” he added.
Mr. Osei Akyeampong urged Twum Boafo to also resign from the NDC if he deemed as denigrating, the earlier response by the General Secretary Asiedu Nketia to their call for the postponement of the creation of the constituencies.
“The so called misbehavior he attributed to the Public Relations Officer is neither here nor there. Let us bear in mind that Twum Boafo is a Presbyterian and if he really wants to aspire his resignation to the moral upbringing of Presbyterianism, then the highest form of disrespect shown by Mr. Nketia against the Moderator of the Church should have been the basis for his resignation.”
