Berekum Chelsea's Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Clottey could play alongside Egyptian playmaker Shikabala in upcoming season
Emirati club Al-Wasl is on the verge of signing Berekum Chelsea's Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Clottey before the close of the current summer transfer window, UAE daily newspaper Albayan reported on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old attacker has performed well in the CAF Champions League this season, scoring 12 goals to emerge as the tournament's leading marksman, almost equalling Stephen Worgu’s 13-goal haul in 2007.
"Clottey is close to signing with Al-Wasl after two weeks of negotiations between the two parties. The official announcement of the deal could be in the next few hours," Albayan reported.
"The contact with Clottey came at the request of French coach Bruno Metsu, who is convinced of his abilities," the newspaper said of the player, who has also been linked with a move to Egypt's Ahly.
Clottey put in heroic performances in the past four games in the Champions League group stages.
He scored a hat trick in the group B opener against Zamalek, helping his team to a difficult 3-2 win before hitting a brace against TP Mazembe, but failed to score in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Ahly.
If the news about Clottey's move to Al-Wasl materialises, he will play alongside Egyptian playmaker Mahmoud Abdel-Razek 'Shikabala,' who has just completed his transfer to the UAE outfit from Egypt's Zamalek.
