The Department of Animal Biology and Conservation Science at the University of Ghana has warned students of the department against provocative dressing.
“Descent [sic] dressing is required of all students in this department. You could be turned away from academic facilities if you are not decently dressed,” a notice posted at the department read.
It is not clear if the recent BBC ‘Sex for Grades’ exposé informed the head of the department to approve the notice on October 7, however, female students on the campuses of the University of Ghana are usually criticised for attending lectures in skimpy clothes.
The documentary produced by the BBC Africa Eye and aired on Monday, October 7, 2019, shows alleged cases of sexual harassment at the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.
The BBC sent female undercover reporters to the campuses of the two universities where it reported that they were sexually harassed, propositioned and put under pressure by senior lecturers – all the while wearing secret cameras.
Two lecturers at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr Paul Kwame Butakor, shown in the documentary and accused of engaging in sexual harassment on campus have since been interdicted by the university.
The BBC has said it picked reports from students who have been victimised in similar scenarios in relation to the subject matter in the hands of the same lecturers [Gyampo and Butakor] mentioned in the documentary.

In a related development, the Dagbon Centre for Leadership and Development (DCLD) is advocating for an approved uniform for tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The DCLD, a non-profit policy research organisation, said in a statement (published below) that approved uniforms will cut down on the incidents of sexual harassment.
