The ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) is set to hold its parliamentary primaries in constituencies with the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) on January 27, 2024.
Ahead of the polls some 33 of these MPs already know their stance as they are going unopposed. Implying that they are preparing for the general elections at the end of the year.
JoyNews has put together the list of unopposed MPs and their corresponding constituencies and regions.
In the Ashanti Region, five incumbent MPs go unopposed, making it one of the 15 regions with the highest number of unopposed candidates.
All five candidates are currently the incumbent MP for their various constituencies, each with at least a term of experience.
They are; Bosomtwe MP Yaw Osei Adutwum and Effiduase MP Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie both of who were members of the 7th and 8th Parliaments.
The rest are; Ejisu MP John Ampotuah Kumah and Offinso South MP Isaac Yaw Opoku and Akrofuom MP Alex Blankson all of whom are members of the 8th Parliament.
The Northern region also has five incumbent MPs going unopposed.
The Bimbilla MP Ntiwul Bingab Aduna Dominic, has been a member of five parliaments; 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliaments.
The rest are Tatale- Sanguli MPÂ Mbomba Thomas, Gushegu MP Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, Tolon MP, Iddrisu Habib and Karaga MP Mohammed Amin Adam each being a member of the 8th Parliament.
The Eastern Region follows with four unopposed candidates.
The Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong is running unopposed and has been a member of the 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliament.
The rest are Akim Oda MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Upper West Akim MP Adom Frederick Obeng, and New Juaben South MP Michael Okyere Baafi, all of who are members of the current and 8th Parliament.
Central region, Greater Accra, and North East each have three unopposed candidates.
In the Central Region, Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo Markin is running unopposed and has been a member of parliament for three consecutive terms, spanning the 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliament.
Assin Central MP John Ntim Fordjour is also running unopposed and was a member of the 7th and 8th parliament. Additionally, Upper Denkyira East MP, Festus Awuah Kwofie retains his candidature and is a member of the current Parliament.
In Greater Accra, Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan runs unopposed and has been a member of the 7th and 8th parliament. The others are Okaikwei South MP Darkoa Newman and Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah, both of whom joined the 8th Parliament.
Again in North East region Yagaba/Kubori MP Yussif Mustapha has been a member of two parliaments, the 6th and 8th while Yunyoo MP, Liwaal Oscar and Chereponi MP Tahidu Abdul-Razak also running unopposed are members of the present parliament.
Bono East and Upper West regions each have two unopposed candidates.
In Bono East, Techiman South MP Martin Kwaku Adjei Mensah Korsah and Kintampo South MP Alexander Gyan are parliamentary candidates, both of who are members of the 8th parliament.
In the Upper West, Lambussie Nandom MP Ambrose Dery served in multiple parliaments including the 5th, 7th, and 8th parliament. Additionally, Dr Bright Yelviel Baligi is a member of the 8th parliamentÂ
Ahafo, Bono, Upper East, Western North, Savannah, and Western North Regions one candidate each is running unopposed.
In the Ahafo region, Tano South MP Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere goes unopposed and is a member of the 7th and 8th parliament.
In Bono Dormaa East MP, Paul Apreku Twum Barimah is a member of the 8th Parliament.
In Volta, Hoehoe John-Peter Amewu joined parliament during the 7th and 8th Parliament
In Savannah, Damongo MP Samuel Abdulai Jinapor also running unopposed and he joined the 8th parliament.
In the Upper East Region, Binduri MP Abanga Abdulaif also a member of the 8th Parliament.
Western North, Sefwi Akontombra MP Alex Tetteh Djournobuah is member of the 7th and 8th parliament
The Western region is a tight contest as all of them have competitors.
