Professor Joshua Alabi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, said the University had obtained accreditation for Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Petroleum Accounting and Finance, and Internal Auditing programmes for the 2013/2013 academic year.
He said accreditation was in process for the introduction of Master of Science degree in Total Quality Management and that the development of other demand-driven programmes in line with national development aspirations were on course.
Prof. Alabi said this at the Second Congregation of the School of Graduate Studies of the University for Professional Studies (UPS) where 127 students graduated in various academic disciplines.
The courses include MBA in Accounting and Finance, MBA in Auditing, MBA in Corporate Governance and Master of Philosophy in Global Leadership.
Professor Alabi said the School of Graduate Studies, founded in 2009, is now the School of Research and Graduate Studies with its role to facilitate, co-ordinate and appraise the conduct of graduate studies as well as research activities of graduate students.
Prof Alabi said the main objective of the school is the training and development of post-graduate students in acquisition of specialized skills in management and accountancy and that it had a total of 504 registered students out of which 320 were offered admission in the 2012/2013 academic year.
He said since the inception of the school, it had facilitated a number of research projects in partnership with local and international organizations.
“The Department for International Development has funded projects to the School meant to conduct research focusing on providing a managerial framework for traditional leaders aimed at optimizing the benefits derived from land resources in the country,” he said.
Prof Alabi said the Internal Audit Agency of Ghana, with support from the World Bank, had contracted the school to develop a curriculum towards training of internal auditors in the country.
He advised grandaunts to work hard and make good use of their qualification by utilizing their training and experience in improving their performance and productivity.
Mr Idris Egala, Former Chairman of the Governing Council of UPS, urged the graduants to exhibit high professional and moral ethics and endeavour to transform the institution to a higher pedestal.
Mr Egala expressed the hope that the quality education received by the students would enable them to fit and compete effectively in the labour market and create jobs through entrepreneurship.
