The Vanuatu Trade Commission to Ghana has extended heartfelt solidarity and best wishes to all Ghanaians as they celebrate Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day on 23rd September 2024 since 21st September 2024 fell on a Saturday.

In a statement, the Commission said this important occasion “honours the life and legacy of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, whose visionary leadership was instrumental in securing Ghana’s independence and igniting the flame of African liberation.”

It said, Kwame Nkrumah’s message of self-determination, unity, and progress resonates not only in Ghana and Africa but also in regions like the Pacific, where the Republic of Vanuatu shares a common history of striving for freedom and sovereignty.

“Just as Nkrumah championed the cause of African independence, so too did our leaders in Vanuatu fight for independence from colonial rule, achieving this goal in 1980. His Pan-Africanist ideals of unity and his unwavering commitment to the development of the African continent continue to inspire Vanuatu and its leadership as we embrace our role in global affairs.”

The statement signed by H.E. Amb. Prof. Hugh Keku Aryee, Vanuatu Trade Commissioner to Ghana said “As Ghana celebrates the enduring legacy of this great leader, let us remember his call for solidarity among all peoples fighting for freedom and equality. His message transcends borders, reaching all those who seek justice, peace, and prosperity. We, too, in Vanuatu, recognize that our independence and sovereignty are part of a larger global movement of liberation that Nkrumah so passionately advocated for.”

In the words of great leaders who recognized Nkrumah’s immense contributions: "Kwame Nkrumah is Africa's greatest." – Nelson Mandela. "Kwame Nkrumah will be remembered as one of the greatest African revolutionaries, a man of vision, courage, and determination." – Julius Nyerere. "The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa." – Kwame Nkrumah himself.”

The statement concluded, “As we reflect on the values of leadership, resilience, and unity that Nkrumah championed, may this day inspire a renewed commitment to fostering stronger ties between Africa and the Pacific, and to the ideals of freedom, solidarity, and shared prosperity.”
