Ghanaian Highlife Musician Martin King Arthur, well known in Showbiz as Kofi Kinaata, is highly hopeful of winning this year's VGMA 'Songwriter of the Year' title.
Winning this year's Songwriter award will make Kofi Kinaata a record holder in that category since the inception of the Vodafone Ghana Music Award scheme, after winning the same in 2016, 2017 and 2020.
He will compete with Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Adina, Abiana and Epixode in that tight category.
“As for the Songwriter of the Year, hands down. I am not bragging but looking at the song involved; we are talking about Behind The Scene. For that one, it is, hands down.
"That one is already inside the basket. It is what it is. Whatever will happen will happen, but Songwriter of the Year is hands down,” he said.
Kofi Kinaata has been nominated for other three categories in this year's VGMA awards, including International Collaboration of the Year, Best Highlife Song of the Year and Best Highlife Artiste of the Year.
The musician also hinted that he takes inspiration from conversations and issues that make rounds in the public space, adding that he is bent on producing quality music worth listening to.
According to him, songwriting and singing come to him naturally, from his heart.
In an earlier interview with JoyNews' Becky, he revealed that “sometimes when I’m making music, I don’t think about making money or making it commercial. I don’t make music with ‘certain’ people in mind. I do it from my heart; how I’m feeling and my new single Thy Grace, for instance, is my story.”
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is an annual event organized by the Charterhouse Ghana Limited. This year's awards comes off Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, 2021.
