A philanthropic organization, Volta Health Network has restored the vision of some 56 persons during its recent medical mission in Adidome in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.
A team of specialists performed surgeries comprising of Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS), Pterygium Excision, Evisceration and Corneal scrapping. The most prevalent was the SICS.
About 40 medical experts and volunteers pitched a camp at the Adidome and Sogakofe Government Hospitals to render free health services to beneficiaries during the mission.

Residents numbering about a thousand from Adidome, Mafi Kumasi, Juapong and hard-to-reach communities benefited from the humanitarian service.
They were provided free consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and surgical services for those who needed to go under the knife. Cases such as hypertension and severe ammonia were identified as prevalent illnesses among the beneficiaries of the medical mission.

The Co-President of the Volta Health Network, Dr. Francis Jojo Damalie said that medical missions by his outfit provides multi-specialty services.
He said their services included internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, general surgery, urology, and ophthalmology among others.
“So we provide a broad array of medical services, and we attend to a broad array of pathology which is very much needed in our communities which are largely underserved”, he said.
He said the outreach is to give back to the vulnerable and poor in society to exhibit their appreciation to the country for investing in their training to become medical workers.
He recounted that the first medical mission organized by Volta Health Network saw over 300 patients being provided free healthcare with over 65 surgeries done.
Mr. Damalie extended an open invitation to persons of similar visions to either support the Volta Health Network with human resources, logistics or finances.
The Medical Superintendent of the Adidome Government Hospital, Dela Martin Ahiavih, was thanked the Network for extending their services to help provide free treatment to the residents.
He outlined hypertension, severe anemia, Pneumonia, severe malaria and fever as prevalence conditions in the district, which residents does not have the financial resources to seek medical care.
“We can not afford to turn a blind eye to the negative impact these diseases have on our citizens. Therefore, something needs to be done. As medical professionals, we have a responsibility to care for the health of our community we serve. And this outreach programme without any doubt aims at achieving this goal”, he said.
The Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, Gabby Hotordze said identifying the importance of the medical mission, he liaised with the District Assembly to raise funds to support the exercise.
He said it was imperative for the poor in the area who are suffering various medical conditions to benefit from such an initiative, hence his commitment.

The Volta Health Network presented surgical sets including pulse oximeters, caesarian section surgical sets, medications and other medical logistics to the Adidome Hospital.
