Voltic (GH) Limited has presented a cheque of GHc 20, 000 to support charity organisation, Ghana Education Project (GEP), to improve educational infrastructure. The donation, which forms part of the company’s Corporate Social investment, is also to enable the NGO undertake a number of activities aimed at improving human resource training for teachers and equipment procurement, among others. The Ghana Education Project has since 1997 been supporting the development of education and associated infrastructure in Nkwanta, a deprived area in the northern part of the Volta region. Over the years, GEP has completed several infrastructure projects such as the Conservation Education Centre in 1999, a school library in 2001, Records and Reception office for St. Joseph’s Hospital in 2003, a Teachers Resource Centre in 2005 and the Kyabobo Community Centre in 2008. The latest infrastructural project is a new school for girls, which is expected to be completed in June this year. Presenting the cheque, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Voltic (GH) Limited Cyrus deGraft-Johnson noted, “Last year, together with our sister company, we supported GEP’s efforts with cash and products. Today we at Voltic, taking cognizance of the impact of the work being done by this NGO have decided to support it with a further GHc 20, 000. This is in line with our corporate objective to support initiatives that seek to improve access to primary education and improvement in educational infrastructure”. “What we are providing today will go towards the Nkwanta Students Award, wildlife competition and an excursion to Mole National Park for the winners. "We are also supporting a health programme for Basic Schools as well as production of materials, workshop and in-school delivery”, Mr deGraft-Johnson added. According to founder of the NGO, Gillian Norris, “GEP runs several programmes that support the provision of quality education too. We have set up the Nkwanta Awards for Junior High Schools, which received financial and material support from Accra Brewery Limited last year. This kind donation from Voltic (GH), sister company of ABL, will enable us facilitate the training programmes for teachers and produce lesson plans for every Science and English lesson in JHS”. “GEP is most grateful to Voltic for this benevolent gesture. We would be glad if other companies come to assist us complete the numerous projects we have set our eyes on in the Nkwanta district.”
