Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister for Information and National Orientation, has appealed to the electorate in Jasikan District to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2008 to continue with development in the area. He said work was expected to be completed on rehabilitation of the 15 kilometre Baglo-Kute road, spot improvement of feeder roads, and construction of a Kindergarten at Teteman and teachers’ quarters at Kudje. Mr Asamoah-Boateng made the appeal in an address read on his behalf at the annual Buem Congress and fundraising at Baglo. It was organised by Coalition for Peace and Development in Buem (COPADIB), under the theme “Unity and Education for Development”. He said peace was essential for nation building and commended members of COPADIB for initiating measures to solve chieftaincy conflicts in Buem Traditional Area and urged the chiefs to cooperate with the committee set up to settle the disputes. Mr Bob-Charles Agbontor, Jasikan District Chief Executive, appealed to the electorate to elect him as Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency on December 7. He promised to ensure an open, proactive and transparent administration, towards development of the district. Mr Agbontor pledged Government’s commitment to improve their living standards and urged them to initiate self-help projects adding “We cannot look up to Government alone for development”. He expressed concern about development in the district that was lagging behind and urged the people to unite and support COPADIB to accelerate socio-economic development. Mr. Agbontor pledged to work with members of COPADIB to unite the chiefs and people and urged them to bury their differences for the development of the district. He expressed worry about the standard of education and said the assembly had planned to organise mock examinations for students, help communities to provide accommodation for teachers and award scholarships to poor but brilliant students to improve education in the district. Nana Abulati Buaka II, Chief of Baglo, commended government for extending development to Buem, which include construction of roads, provision of potable water, sanitation, health and educational facilities. However, he appealed to the assembly to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the Baika-Ayoma-Kute, Bodada-Baika and the Bodada-Baika roads to facilitate socio-economic activities in the area. Nana Buaka called for the improvement of Father Dogli Memorial Trade School, at New Ayoma and technical-oriented Senior High Schools at Okadjakrom and Baglo, to give impetus to government’s policy on technical and vocational education and training.
