The Volta River Authority (VRA) has been crowned champions of the University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship 2025, after an impressive display of teamwork, skill, and determination at the University of Ghana Tennis Court.
The competition, which brought together top corporate teams including GOIL, Stanbic Bank Ghana and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), featured a “two-doubles, one-singles format”.
VRA’s road to victory began with a strong performance in their first doubles match, where the duo Nana Kum Sam-Awortwi and Samuel Yaw Akotuah defeated GCAA’s pair, Pobi Afoakwa and Akwasi Agyei, with a commanding 9 – 4 scoreline.
The momentum continued in the second doubles, as Nana Kum Sam-Awortwi teamed up with Daniel Kwame Dzogbetsah to once again beat GCAA’s Maxlon Abuabasa and Akwasi Agyei, also finishing 9 – 4.
In the singles round, VRA’s Adom Manasseh Dickson faced off against GCAA’s Pobi Afoakwa, losing 2 – 6 in a spirited and entertaining contest that showcased the competitive spirit of the tournament.
The finals saw VRA face GOIL in an exciting matchup. In the first doubles game, VRA’s Samuel Yaw Akotuah and Nana Kum Sam-Awortwi defeated GOIL’s Robert Lartey and Enoch Amponsah with a 9–4 win.
The second doubles was just as thrilling, GOIL’s Alex Abbey and Leo-George Borluvie played well but couldn’t hold off the strong VRA team, losing 9–5.
With “two wins out of three sets”, there was no need for a singles decider, leading officials to rightfully declare VRA the champions of the 2025 UG Corporate Tennis Championship.
The University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship was organized by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate in partnership with RITE Sports Services, with support from GOIL PLC, Verna Water, Penfield School, and the Ghana Tennis Federation.
