Youth Alive, a nongovernmental organization based in the three Northern Regions with support from Star-Ghana has organized a meeting between parliamentary aspirants in the Wa Central Constituency and Street Youth in the Wa Municipality. The meeting gave the parliamentary aspirants the opportunity to roll out plans they have for the youth who in turn asked them questions bordering their lives. Three of the five parliamentary aspirants contesting the Wa Central seat turned up for the event. They included Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Suleman Issahaku of the Convention People’s Party and James Sohimwininye of the Progressive People’s Party. The incumbent Member of Parliament and NDC parliamentary candidate Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo advised them to see their present circumstance as a stepping stone to a higher level of development. ‘‘Life is about ambition; it is about expectation and it is about hope. As young people like you working at the Kejetia as truck pushers as loading boys; it is a temporary situation’’, he added. He pledged to support those who were schooling but could not continue because of lack of funds and also help those who would rather learn a trade. The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) candidate, Suleman Issahaku commended the youth for not allowing themselves to be used to foment trouble in the upcoming polls. Mr. Issahaku said he will liaise with nongovernmental organizations to help sponsor those who are prepared to get back to school. The Progressive People's Party’s (PPP) James Sohimwininye said he will go by his party’s mantra by providing them with decent jobs. Mr. Sohimwininye said if he is given the nod he will team up with Youth centered NGOs to provide them with decent homes so that they will be comfortable in order to contribute their quota to the development of the country. The Upper West programmes director of Youth Alive, Peter. B. Tanga praised the aspirants for heeding to their call and coming to interact with the street youth. He said the aim of Youth Alive is to work to better the lives of young people who are living under deprived situations.
